As expected, West Las Vegas girls’ basketball has claimed sole possession of the No. 1 ranking in Class 3A.

The latest New Mexico High School Coaches Association poll, released Wednesday, gives the Lady Dons (14-1) the nod. West had been tied with Lovington for the top spot but beat the Lady Wildcats in a head-to-head matchup last week. The team has since defeated Mora, Santa Fe and most recently Peñasco (64-42 on Wednesday night).

Lovington dropped one spot to No. 2, followed by Socorro and Santa Fe Indian. The Lady Braves visit West on Wednesday in the teams’ District 2-3A opener.

Portales, Hope Christian, Thoreau, Robertson, Pojoaque and Ruidoso round out the top 10 this week.

In Class 3A boys’ hoops, Robertson held on to the No. 4 ranking behind Hope, Sandia Prep and St. Michael’s. SFIS, Lovington, Pojoaque, Socorro, Bloomfield and Wingate complete the 10.

Mora is fifth in the 2A girls poll.
