Las Vegas resident Emelie Olson displays a garden-watering catchment system that relies mainly on greywater and rainwater, rather than fresh city water. Olsen said the system relies heavily on mulching. Her watering system is fed through inside-the-house connections that funnel greywater to the catchment system. Olson’s backyard also contains large storage tanks that collect water. Olson invited members of the public to observe the ecologically sound process during a “Waterwise Garden Tour” Saturday. Olson and her husband, Glenn Yocum, also have a small outdoor stove with sun-catching capabilities. On Saturday, the couple prepared a soup using only the sun as the heat source.
