The Community Foundation Coalition of New Mexico raised $853,000 for nonprofits across the state through its 24-hour online fundraising event that took place on Tuesday.
Among the nonprofits taking part in Give Grande New Mexico were several from San Miguel County. They raised about $21,000.
MainStreet de Las Vegas raised $10,055. It received more money than all but 14 of the more than 400 nonprofits taking part.
“The support from the community is incredible, and much more is to come,” said Cindy Collins, the organization’s executive director.
Organizers of the event say it was the largest single fundraising event in New Mexico history.
The Coalition received 7,880 gifts over the course of the day from 7,799 donors. The average gift amount was $95.92. A total of 409 nonprofit organizations from every corner of the state took part in the event. Each of the participating nonprofits received a contribution.
In a joint statement, the leaders of each of the five members of the Community Foundation Coalition said, “Yesterday was a truly historic day for New Mexico. With over $850,000 raised, this event is an unqualified success. The real story of Give Grande is that thousands of small acts of generosity added up to a huge gift for our communities. Yesterday showed us what we can achieve when we all work together for good. Our state can be enormously proud of this accomplishment, which far surpassed what many thought possible. Thank you, New Mexico!”
