For just the second time this season, a Las Vegas Train Robbers home crowd approached three digits.
And those home fans were in for a treat — a stirring 4-3 comeback for the Train Robbers against the Pecos League Northern Division-leading Santa Fe Fuego on Wednesday.
Santa Fe took the first lead of the evening on David Brandt’s RBI single in the top of the second and made it 2-0 when Nick Billinger singled to score Brandt in the fifth.
The Fuego’s pitching held the Robbers to two hits and a walk through the first six innings.
But Las Vegas loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh and Kyal Williams scored on a wild pitch. Santa Fe reliever Andrew Shoulders got out of the jam.
Billinger drove in Omar Artsen for an insurance run to make it 3-1 in the top of the eighth. But Vegas bats came alive down the stretch, and Miguel Castaño’s RBI hit, followed by a two-run single from Chris Johnson lifted the Robbers to a 4-3 edge in the eighth.
Clint Manzo recorded the save, preserving a win for Josh Tols.
At 10-15, the Robbers were poised to pass the Raton Osos for third place in the division standings as of late Wednesday.
With games this coming week against second-place Trinidad (12-12), Las Vegas can make a serious move upward.
