Vatos rock High Desert Classic

The New Mexico Highlands University Vatos are champions of the High Desert Classic.

It’s the first time in the rugby tournament’s 40-year history a collegiate team has won the men’s open division bracket, according to faculty adviser Dick Greene.

To achieve the title, the Vatos defeated Las Cruces 37-7, Albuquerque Brujos 31-22, the host Albuquerque Aardvarks 27-20 and previously undefeated El Paso in a 22-20 championship thriller this past weekend in Albuquerque.
