Alarm bells went off last week as city of Las Vegas workers were attempting to locate the source of a large leak at the water treatment plant.
Crews had to dig to try to get to the leak, but city officials confirm the methods workers were using to mitigate the possibility of a trench collapse were inadequate. When city Utilities Director Ken Garcia arrived at the worksite last Tuesday night, he saw field supervisor John Allemand inside a 9-foot deep trench that hadn’t been properly shored up. It’s unclear if any other city employees had been in the trench.
