Arts Council Hosts Tin Show and Workshop
The Las Vegas Arts Council celebrates creative tinwork in its first Northern New Mexico Tinwork – Contemporary and Traditional Show in progress through Nov. 29 at the Las Vegas arts council gallery, 140 Bridge St. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, or by appointment. Everyone is invited to a public reception with refreshments and an ongoing tin Holiday ornament sale to benefit LVAC, from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13. The arts council will also host a tin ornament workshop Saturday, Dec. 4.
Many of the artists will attend the reception, including George Ulibarri, Beatrice Maestas-Sandoval, Janet Stein Romero, Richard Rivera, Henry Ortiz, Joe Martin-Madrid, Jimmy Martin Madrid, Amber Lon MacLean, Margie Seay Maez, Jeanne Halsey, Gene Gurule, Cynthia Cook, Alice Chambers, Precious America Chavez (9 years old), Meredith Britt and Javier Blea.
A tin ornament workshop will be held at the arts council gallery from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Dec. 4. No experience is necessary. The cost is $15 per person and materials are provided. The workshop will taught by experienced tinsmiths Beatrice Maestas-Sandoval and George Ulibarri. Call the arts council, 425-1085, by Nov. 26 to reserve a spot – space is limited.
