Santa Fe Indian School and nimble point guard Jenine Coriz didn’t do anything fancy.
They just plain outworked Robertson in the pivotal third quarter of Thursday night’s District 2-3A girls’ basketball clash at Mike Marr Gym.
Coriz scored 10 of her 17 points in that period as the Lady Braves outscored their hosts 20-3 to seize a 48-35 lead.
The Lady Cardinals came to life in the final period, pressing and attacking with the urgency they lacked the previous eight minutes. But they ultimately came up just shy in a 51-49 defeat.
Thursday night in Santa Fe, host St. Michael’s fended off a furious second-half rally by West Las Vegas to win 43-36.
Miranda Martinez had hit a three-pointer to draw the Lady Dons within 36-34 before she tied the contest with a deuce.
