With reference to Martin Salazar’s article “Drilling Advocates take Aim” in the Feb. 15 Optic:
It is of ultimate concern that water, soil and air in our community and in our county remain sustainable, non-polluted and available for ourselves, our neighbors, and for future generations. There has not been adequate time nor attention given to the potential impacts of hydraulic fracturing on drinking water, irrigation and animal life.
I feel strongly that the EPA study on the impacts of fracking needs to be completed, reviewed, and made available to the public before decisions by the San Miguel County commissioners are made concerning the process in our area.
Therefore, I respectfully ask that the current moratorium on oil and gas exploration, drilling, and extraction be extended until the fall of 2014.
