Summer sports camps scheduled

A host of summer sports camps for various age groups and activities are scheduled in the coming weeks.

The 2011 Don Woods Football Clinic will be held from Thursday, June 9, through Saturday, June 11, and will feature the camp’s namesake and 1975 NFL Rookie of the Year, an alumnus of New Mexico Highlands University.

The clinic is designed for players age 8-12. Registration fee is $75 per child, payable to Don Woods, P.O. Box 12710, Albuquerque, N.M. 87195-0710. Registration form should be included with payment (cash, money order, cashier checks only), listing name and contact information of participant and parents, age and shirt size. A waiver of liability will need to be signed.

Training will take place at Albuquerque’s St. Pius X High School. Sessions will run from 8:30 a.m. until noon each day, followed by lunch.

New Mexico Highlands University women’s basketball team is hosting Junior Deputy Camp (for ages 5-8), Cowgirl Camp (ages 9-14), both June 20-22.

The program will also host NMHU Cowgirl Skills Academy — focusing on advanced skills, shooting, position play and conditioning — for ages 13-18 July 7-9.
