State auditor to look into gas rates

The state auditor’s office is the latest agency to join in the inquiry into the city of Las Vegas’ natural gas rates.

State Auditor Hector Balderas announced Friday that he has asked the city’s contract auditor, Jeff McWhorter, to examine whether the city is following its ordinance in setting Las Vegas’ natural gas rates.

Balderas said he wants McWhorter to speed up the process because winter is nearing.

“He’s indicated that this is his No. 1 priority,” he said.
