Al Sorenson picked up lucky No. 7. And Elaine Hazelrigg won in a photo finish.

Sorenson and Hazelrigg captured the individual men’s and women’s club championships on Aug. 22 at Pendaries Golf Course in Rociada.

“The ladies’ race was very close with Denise Franken and Lou Fox offering a big challenge to Elaine,” wrote Pendaries golf pro Larry Webb. “This was Al’s seventh out of the last nine club championships. That is an unprecedented accomplishment.”

Lou Fox edged Carol Locklin in the ladies’ net score category.

In the men’s “A” flight, Ed Ebell prevailed, followed by Larry Franken and Grant Gregory. In “B” flight, Ernie Phillips had a four-stroke edge over Dennis Aragon, and L.G. Lauxman was third.

The club championships event was one of several significant tournaments hosted at the Pendaries course in recent weeks. The Pendaries Pro-Am was held this past Monday and drew an estimated 125 golfers from across the region. As in years past, that event raised money for charitable organizations like the Ilfeld Foundation.

Other recent golf events at Pendaries:

• Pendaries Twilight Golf Scramble on Aug. 18, a “Suzy twist” format won by the team of W. Lovelady, J. Lovelady, D. Miller and L.G. Lauxman (35 gross, 9.1 handicap, 25.9 net). D. Hinds, R. Hinds, B. Marshall, J. Marshall were second; and The Bear, S. Veylupek, K. Dewey and Load Norris were third.

• Beat the Bear, on Aug. 20, won by J. Bartels and L.G. Lauxman, F. Bodola and David Braccialarghe. B. Vigilante and C. Postoak, M. Daigle and T. Espinoza followed.
