New Mexico Highlands athletes won six events in the 39th annual Ray Vaughn Track Classic this past Saturday in Oklahoma City on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University.
Cowgirl standout Angella Graham again led the way, capturing first place in the 100-meter hurdles and the long jump. Nancy Anel won the steeplechase; Patricia Lewis the 400-meter hurdles; Shayla Flores the javelin; and Rashan Guillory the triple jump.
Highlands had a strong presence in the distance events, with the duo of Sandra Martinez and Ana Juarez finishg second and third, respectively, in the 3K run. Martinez was just a couple seconds out of first.
Also a runner-up was the Cowgirls’ 400-meter relay group. Graham took second in the high jump. Patricia Lewis and Rashan Guillory were second place in the javelin and long jump, respectively, giving NMHU the top two placings in both events.
