Pecos’ Johnny Vigil and Aaron Lujan have been named to the Class 2A boys’ basketball all-state second team by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association.
Wagon Mound’s Eric Olguin was honored with selection to the Class B boys’ all-state first team; Trojan teammate Jose Aguilar was tabbed to the second team.
Mora’s Chantel Rivera was chosen for the Class 2A girls’ second team.

Robertson’s dynamic duo of frontcourt players, Ryan Tafoya and Joe Mascareñas, will join Pecos wing Johnny Vigil and guard Aaron Lujan as part of the North All-Star boys’ basketball team this summer.
Tafoya is a 6-2 forward, and Mascareñas a 6-4 post. The Cardinals were 12-16 and qualified for the state tournament.
Vigil is a 6-0 wing and Lujan a 5-7 guard who helped lead Pecos to a 27-win season that included an unbeaten district season and a run to the quarterfinals of the Class 2A state tournament. The Panthers, coached by Russ Gilmore, were ranked as high as No. 1 in the state during the season and finished at No. 2.
Vigil and Lujan also were recently honored with selection to the New Mexico High School Coaches Association All-State team for their classification.
Wagon Mound’s Eric Olguin, a 5-10 forward, and Jose Aguilar, a 5-7 guard, were named to the Class 1A-1B North boys’ lineup. Olguin and Aguilar helped the Trojans reach the Class B championship game for a second consecutive season. Coach Bobby Clouthier’s club went 20-8 and finished as runner-up to Hondo Valley.
On the girls’ side, West Las Vegas’ Michelle Tapia and Mora’s Chantel Rivera will be teammates on the North girls’ basketball roster.
Tapia is a 5-10 forward. A tenacious rebounder and inside scoring threat, she was instrumental in the Lady Dons’ season, a 17-13 record, district tournament finals and state tournament appearance.
Rivera, a 5-3 guard, was a leading scorer on the Rangerettes squad that won 27 games and made it to the Class 2A girls’ quarterfinals.
Las Vegas and New Mexico Highlands University will host the annual Class 2A-3A North-South week in basketball and football, culminating with the all-star games July 12-13.
The Class 1A-1B all-star games will be held Aug. 1 at Albuquerque High School.
