Fiestas are by definition a celebration, and at the recent Fiesta de Golf, Rociada resident Linda Thompson found herself celebrating that most coveted of golf achievements — the elusive hole in one.

Thompson’s ace came in the midst of the Las Vegas Ladies Golf Association Tournament Fiesta de Golf held Aug. 26 at the Gene Torres Golf Course on the New Mexico Highlands University campus.

Thompson, who hails from Pendaries,  made her shot on the par 3 ninth hole. It is only the second hole-in-one recorded on the Gene Torres Highlands course, according to a news release from the LVLGA.

Five teams of golfers from clubs in Las Vegas, Pendaries, Santa Fe and Albuquerque played a scrambles format and enjoyed a day of golfing fun followed by a luncheon and the awarding of the following prizes:

• Longest drive: Jackie Geoffrion and Tangee Dolan

• Closest to the pin: Dodie Torres and Carole Watson

• First place: Jackie Geoffrion, Robin Carlson, Carole Watson, Amy Aragon

• Second place: Tangee Dolan, Kay Homan, Dodie Torres, Martha Spencer

• Third place:  Emily Norman, Em Krall, Anne Pepper, Faye Toland.
