Richard Lopez, principal of Robertson High School, was placed on paid administrative leave Monday, officials said.
Las Vegas City Schools Superintendent Rick Romero said he made the decision, but he wouldn’t reveal the reasons, saying it was a personnel matter.
Lopez became assistant principal and athletic director in 1999 and was promoted to principal in 2001.
Patrick Romero, the school board chairman, said he found out about the superintendent’s decision Monday afternoon. He said he didn’t think the decision was in any way connected to the alleged sexual assaults that occurred during a high school football camp in August.
The chairman said Assistant Principal Eddie King is acting in Lopez’s place.
On Friday, the school district placed a Robertson teacher on leave, the superintendent said, but that case is “completely separate” from Lopez’s.
Lopez couldn’t be reached for comment.
