With a team championship and a score of 395, Robertson’s girls’ golf team has qualified its first of three legs necessary to make the state tournament.
The Lady Cardinals took first place at the Los Alamos Invitational on Sept. 21. The team is five players deep with Jayme Quintana, Jamie Allen, Nina Martinez, Shannon Lopez and Karlee Bradley.
Quintana shot a 91, placing second individually; Allen had a 93 for a fifth-place finish. Both players also received a first individual leg for state.
Coach Gene Gurule said he was “very excited for the girls considering this was the first tournament for the fall starting their 2009-10 season. It was also the great improvement by Karlee Bradley that helped make the difference in team play.” Bradley just missed placing in the top six individually.
The boys golf team also played well, Gurule said, though it did not place. Brandon Baca, Casey McElroy, Grant Gregory, and Miclo Allen. “The boy’s golf team had a big improvement shooting a team score 372,” said Gurule, who predicts big improvement by spring.
