Leslie Vigil and her Mora Rangerettes have won their second consecutive championship in the Northern Rio Grande Volleyball Tournament held this past weekend at McCurdy.

Mora came out of pool play Friday seeded second.

In round one of the tournament Mora rebounded from a close loss in the first set to defeat Dulce 23-25, 25-13, 25-12, 26-24.

In the semifinals, Mora went five games to beat host McCurdy. The Rangerettes took a 2-0 lead in the match 25-17 and 25-19 before the Bobcats won the next two 25-20 and 25-12 to tie it up. In th'e decisive fifth, Mora prevailed with a narrow 16-14 decision.

The Rangerettes had less difficulty in the championship match against Peasco. Mora won 25-16 and 25-20 to grab control before the Panthers took the third set 25-18. But the Rangerettes closed it out with a 25-13 win in game four.

The victory gave Mora a measure of revenge, as Peasco had beaten Mora in the second match of the season in Peasco.

Three Rangerettes made the all-tourney team: Amanda Padilla, Jessica Garcia and Brandi Romero.

Mora plays Estancia beginning with the junior varsity match at 5 p.m. Thursday at Montoya Gym.
