• Applications for the 7th annual Justin J. Roper Memorial Scholarship at West Las Vegas High School are now available through Tuesday, April 30. The scholarship, valued at $1,000, recognizes a graduating West Las Vegas High School senior that has shown great achievements in academics, leadership, character and service. The scholarship will be presented to the winner at the school’s annual awards banquet in May. Scholarship applications are available at the West Las Vegas High School Councilors office. • Story Time at Carnegie Library, 10:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1 in the children’s area of the public library. Free and open to the public.
• Yard Sale, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3 and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at 1213 Sixth Street. There will be a variety of household items, books, appliances, clothing, CDs and more. This is a fundraiser for Rotary Club.
• Tressa Jones’ post baccalaureate fine arts exhibit, until May 11 at the Ray Drew Gallery at the Donnelly Library on the NMHU campus. Artist reception takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 3 with an artist’s talk at 5 p.m. All are welcome. Contact Jones at 413-575-9651.
• Cinco de Mayo Youth Dance at the Abe Montoya Recreation Center, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3. Cost is $3. A DJ will provide musical entertainment. • Casa de Cultura’s Second Annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 4 at Mural Park, Seventh and Douglas. There will be mariachis, Aztec dancers, youth musical talent, speakers, food vendors, blues music and the Veterans Honor Guard.
• Memorial Service for all deceased patients of the New Mexico Behavioral Health Institute, 10 a.m. on Friday, May 24 at the institute cemetery C, located at 3695 Hot Springs Boulevard.
