San Miguel County’s former probate judge was under investigation by the state Judicial Standards Commission at the time that he announced that he was retiring, recently unsealed court documents reveal.
The state Supreme Court issued an order on Monday unsealing the case against Horace Lucero, and the court accepted a stipulated agreement in which Lucero’s permanent retirement from judicial office was accepted in lieu of further disciplinary proceedings. The court ordered that Lucero never again hold judicial office nor exercise any judicial authority in New Mexico.
