A Las Vegas man was arrested this week for his fourth DWI, state police said.

Leslie Mike Speed, 55, 500 Douglas Ave. No. 225, was also charged with careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt.

According to a police report, Speed was headed north on Grand Avenue near the Better Stop convenience store around 2:30 p.m. Sunday when a state police officer noticed he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

Speed then crossed the southbound lanes to Better Stop, causing several drivers to take “evasive action” and use their brakes to avoid a crash, the report states.

The officer reported that he smelled alcohol in the car and that Speed had bloodshot watery eyes. When Speed got out of his car, he had unsteady balance, police said.

Speed told the officer that he had a beer about an hour before being stopped as he was taking photos and driving around, police said.

Speed had a Texas driver’s license, and he was eligible to drive with that license, police said.

Speed was taken to the county jail in lieu of a $5,000 cash-only bond.
