The Pecos Independent School District announces the selection of MaryBeth Britton, Pecos High School language arts teacher, as the New Mexico Teacher of the Year.

The Teacher of the Year is selected by a committee from the Public Education Department and sponsored by the Golden Apple Foundation of New Mexico, SMARTer Kids Foundation, Blue Bell Ice Cream, Ortiz Printing of Santa Fe Team Sales, and the New Mexico Chapter of the National State Teachers of the Year.
