The Pecos Panthers won their first game of the season Saturday night 69-68 over the Escalante Lobos, a night after dropping a 75-70 decision to Tularosa.
Tim Baca scored 28 points and Joseph Gonzales added 18 in the winning game against Escalante. Head coach Clyde Sanchez said his team had left a lot of their legs on the hardwood the night before in Tularosa, but the Panthers managed to pull out the contest on a Ricardo Ortiz free throw with seconds remaining after Baca hit a pair of charity tosses to tie the game at 68. Ortiz added 13 points for Pecos in the winning effort.
