Attention homeowners: I received my property taxes for the next year and they went up $196.06 — almost $200 — over last year. I’ve never seen such outrageous raises on property taxes in one year. For businesses I could understand.
I called Alfonso Ortiz, the San Miguel County treasurer, and he said the East Las Vegas schools had made a mistake in their intake of taxes last year, so we the taxpayer had to make up the difference this year, and next year they would go down again. I told him if the schools made the mistake make them account for it, not us.
