Editor’s note: The Optic, as it has done in the past, took in a “job shadow” this school year. The annual program is under the supervision of Karlas Ulibarri-Boyle and April Ortiz. Brandy Lucero, a student at Memorial Middle School, spent Thursday mornings for about two months learning how the newspaper functions by carrying out her assignment: Interview Optic employees and write a story about how the Optic is produced, and a personal column about what she learned.
