Highlands University is going out to bid for its food service contract.

Bill Taylor, the school’s vice president of finance, said there’s a lot of interest in the contract because the student cafeteria will be moving into the new student union building, which is under construction at Eighth Street and National Avenue.

He said officials expect the new cafeteria will draw in more faculty and Las Vegas residents because the new student union is at a more prominent place.

The current cafeteria is in Archuleta Hall, which is next to Central Park.

Taylor said anyone can walk in and buy a meal at the current cafeteria, but he said few besides students do.

“It’s hidden and few know about it. I worked next door, and I didn’t know it was there,” Taylor said.
