• Casa de Samaritan Homeless shelter at 716 Grand Ave. is operating every night, providing meals, laundry and hot showers from 6 to 8:30 p.m. From November through March, the shelter is open for overnight stays. Their Thrift Store, at Seventh and Legion, offers vouchers for clothing, bedding, etc. Samaritan House offers a food pantry distribution every second and fifth Wednesday. Applications for rental services for those who may qualify are available. Call 454-1390.
• Free developmental screenings by New Vistas. Parents often wonder about certain skills and behaviors observed in their child. Common questions like: Is this typical for their age? Should I just wait and see? What should I be looking for? Shouldn’t my child be sleeping through the night, sitting up, walking or talking by now? These questions are good. They are the signs of an attentive and caring parent-the important thing is to find experts to give you the answers you need. If your child is birth to three, call New Vistas for a free developmental screening at 425-5044.
• Samaritan House of Las Vegas in conjunction with the Las Vegas Skatepark Advocates are selling items to benefit the advocates group. If you would like to donate items, contact Brian Marquez at facebook.com/Lasvegasskateparkadvocates for pickup.
• $1,000 reward for information on arson at Rio Gallinas Charter School offered by the governing council of the school. The donated reward to Crime Stoppers seeks information that leads to the identity and conviction of the person(s) who committed arson at the school. If you have information about this crime, contact LVPD Commander Ken Jenkins at 426-3162 or Crime Stoppers at 425-8884.

• Lions Club Glasses Collection Boxes are at the following locations. Banks: Southwest Capital, Community 1st, Douglas Ave and Legion Park; and Wells Fargo. State Employees Credit Union. Opticians’ offices: Wal-Mart, Eye Associates, Mills Ave; Insight Optical, Highway 518. Used glasses are repaired then donated to charity groups serving those in need around the world.
• The Guidance and Counseling Program of New Mexico Highlands University is offering free counseling services to the community this semester. The counseling is provided by graduate students in the final phase of their training in the profession of counseling. The counseling is confidential, free and supervised by a training professor of the program.
