The New Mexico Sports Authority committee will be meeting at noon on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Luna Community College.
“According to officials, it is the first time the prestigious committee meets at the college,” said Jesse Gallegos, a spokesman for Luna, in a news release.
The New Mexico Sports Authority is an entity designed to recruit and retain all forms of professional and amateur sporting events to New Mexico.
LCC President Pete Campos is scheduled to speak to the New Mexico Sports Authority, a panel which was created by Gov. Bill Richardson to map out a comprehensive approach to sports as an economic development engine to New Mexico.
Brian O’Neill is the executive director of the committee.
“We want to welcome Brian O’Neil and the New Mexico Sports Authority to our campus,” said Campos. “It is an honor for Luna Community College. We recognize their importance and will support them in any way we can.”
Henry Sanchez, a faculty member at LCC, is on the committee. Former NFL all-pro Don Perkins, who spoke at LCC as part of its “A Conversation with the Community” earlier this year, is also a member.
