A groundbreaking ceremony for the new David Cargo Library will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Anton Chico. Expected guests include Rep. Tom Udall, D-N.M., State Auditor Hector Balderas and former Lt. Gov. Roberto Mondragon.

“Tom (Udall) said he hoped to be here but it depends on how long the Congress is in session,” Cargo said.

Cargo has raised $580,000 for the project and said another $72,000 will come from a Housing and Urban Development appropriation. The former governor has collected nearly 40,000 books for the new library and said there will also be a computer lab, a picnic area and a playground available for residents.

The ceremony will be held near the village church and a barbecue will follow the groundbreaking event.
