Moratorium on oil and gas extended

San Miguel County Commissioners voted unanimously Tuesday to move forward with extending their moratorium on oil and gas exploration in the county for eight more months.

Commissioners voted to publish notice of the ordinance to extend the moratorium and to hold a public hearing on March 12, following which a vote will be taken to officially extend it.

But because the moratorium that had been in place expired this week, the commission also imposed an emergency moratorium that will be in effect until the March 12 vote.
