Monte del Sol was no match for the Mora Rangerettes this past Saturday evening.
Mora steamrolled through their District 4-2A foe 61-18 to improve to 18-2 overall.
Again, a fast start provided the Rangerettes ample breathing room; they sprinted to a 20-2 spread after the first eight minutes, and it was 37-9 at halftime. It was 52-14 at the end of three periods.
Destiny Pacheco scored a game-high 17 points and also sparked the defense with seven steals. Chantel Rivera filled the stat sheet with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Ball control and security was a major factor. Mora was ticketed with just five turnovers as a team.
Gerty Herrera added nine points and five assists; Brianna Pacheco had eight points and six boards.
Mora boys defeated visiting Monte del Sol by a 76-54 spread on Saturday, moving to 13-7 overall.
Pecos’ boys (17-2 under Russ Gilmore) beat Peñasco 70-57 on Friday night, then routed Santa Fe Prep 76-42 on Monday.
Pecos led by as many as 37, and the Panthers were up 39-15 at intermission after holding Peñasco to three second-quarter points.
West Las Vegas girls (14-7) lost at Pojoaque Valley (12-11) on Saturday night, 72-57. The host Elkettes led 30-24 at halftime.
Robertson boys (8-11) lost at Taos (14-7) by a 61-58 tally on Saturday.
Pecos’ girls overcame a sluggish start to defeat Peñasco 47-41, also on Friday. They lost to Prep 48-38 on Monday. Leroy Barela’s Lady Panthers are now 6-13.
Defending state champ Wagon Mound stayed unbeaten in its district, rolling Maxwell 67-50 on Saturday to improve to 13-6.
