Mora County goes from high mountains to rolling plains.
Every season brings scenes of beauty and thrills.
A sunrise and sunset that show beautiful colorful clouds is seen often. When the snow covers the ground and clings to the trees it brings people out with their cameras to share with friend in photo albums, Facebook and just to share from the modern cameras.
The flowers in the high mountains and even the field of dandelions and wild iris bring gladness to the heart. While driving out on the meadows on the way to Wagon Mound there are fields of cattle and antelope. If one is fortunate there are elk and deer to be seen. One can even visit buffalo grazing on a ranch. What a privilege to live in the beautiful county of Mora.
But that is not all.
The people of this lovely county really make it a privilege to be a part of them. Is there anywhere that a person sees an older person struggling to get to the gas pump to fill up and stop what they are doing and come to help or even the workers come out to help? Where in the city is a carry out in the grocery store by a friendly person who helps the customer get in the car and see that all is well.
Mora County has such caring friendly people. I believe we can say that of the folks in many small towns where everyone knows and cares about their friends and neighbors but Mora is a special place to those of us who live here and have the advantage of a great place to live.
Every funeral is packed as the folks share the grieving ones in their sympathy and love.
Weddings are a time of great celebration and fun for all. The fiestas and funcions are another example of sharing and caring of the people for each other.
Attend a basketball game or Christmas or Dia de la Cultura program, concerts or anything at the school in Mora or Wagon Mound and there a person will see crowds of proud parents and well wishers cheering the students on as they do their best to make our schools shine.
We have our “ups and downs” but in all in all there is no place better to live than Mora County.
Breakfast a great success
The VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Mora Post 1131 held a pancake breakfast and lunch last week. It was a great success.
The community responded and enjoyed a great breakfast or lunch with pancakes, sausage, syrup, juice and coffee.
Part of the success was due to the cooperation of all of the members. All of the proceeds was a profit because all of the ingredient and hardware were donated by the members. They are also grateful to Anselmo Chavez who volunteered to help cook and is talented in making pancakes.
The ladies want to thank all of those who supported the undertaking.
