The Missoula Children’s Theatre, the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, has been touring extensively for more than 40 years from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. A tour team will arrive in Las Vegas on Monday with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play… except the cast.
The team will hold an open audition on Monday at Ilfeld Auditorium and will cast about 50 plus local students from first through 12th grade. No audition material is required. Auditions will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday.
All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales … a twist on classic stories. This summer’s production will be “The Secret Garden.”
After casting is complete, rehearsals will last all week from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day with a short lunch break about noon. The performance of The Secret Garden will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 26 in Ilfeld Auditorium on the Highland campus. Tickets will sold at the door.
General Admission will be $10; for children 12 and under, the cost will be $5. University faculty, staff and students with ID will be admitted without charge.
For over 30 years, MCT’s summer shows have been sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Council with partial underwriting from New Mexico Arts. Although the Arts Council regularly incurs a financial loss with the summer children’s theatre production, the LVAC Board has consistently felt that the benefits MCT provides to the Las Vegas children and community outweigh financial considerations of profit or loss.
