My family and I want to acknowledge the emergency room staff at our local hospital that were on duty Friday, Jan. 6, at about 10:30 p.m. when my husband (Kim Kirkpatrick) arrived with shortness of breath.
Each and every staff member realized the seriousness of his situation, moving rapidly with assurance. Dr. Luchini immediately knew that my husband had to be airlifted. Edwina Lucero, R.N., was outstanding, tending to my husband and then standing beside me as the helicopter took off. That was the last time I saw my husband conscious and, unfortunately, he died after surgery.
