Boys’ basketball teams from two area middle schools went head to head Saturday in the Valley as the hoops season neared its conclusion.

In a matchup of sixth- and seventh-graders, the visiting West Las Vegas Middle School squad won 33-13 after building upon a slim 9-8 edge through one period. The West team improved to 6-8, while the young Roadrunners remain in search of a victory.

Valley squared things up by winning the eighth-grade contest 46-38 despite having just a few actual eighth-graders. The Roadrunners (5-6) were up 43-30 but the Gents (5-9) made a strong rally in the final period.
