ALBUQUERQUE — U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman says the National Park Service is the agency best suited to handle long-term management of the Valles Caldera National Preserve in northern New Mexico.
The New Mexico Democrat made the comment Wednesday after a committee hearing on legislation that directs the agency to take over management of the preserve in a way that protects the area’s natural and cultural resources.
Bingaman and fellow New Mexico Democrat Tom Udall introduced the legislation.
