Robertson and West Las Vegas cross country teams will be showcased at home for the only time this regular season on Saturday, when the Meadow City Cross Country Jam takes place in town.
The meet begins at 9 a.m. at the course, with RHS the official host.
Freshman Brian Maestas, who paced the Cardinal boys in Taos a couple weeks back, is among the early leaders on the guys’ side.
West Las Vegas has had depth issues on the boys’ side, but Jordan Lopez is another leader, fresh off a fifth-place finish (17:40) at West Mesa’s meet.
West’s girls have posted three consecutive top-four team finishes, including a third place at West Mesa. Amanda Ortzow continues to run well and placed third in that meet in 21:08.
Ortzow leads a deep Lady Dons group with plenty of big-race experience.
Depth is no issue for the Robertson girls, either. The Lady Cards are about a dozen deep with only Ashley Martinez and Samantha Romero listed as seniors.

For New Mexico Highlands’ Cross Country Jam, the hiatus will continue at least one more year.
The Highlands meet, which had been held in past years alongside the high school events, was scratched during the lengthy renovation project at the Gene Torres Golf Course. The lapse of the past several years has effectively caused other college teams to migrate to other meets on the schedule, coaches said, but plans to revive the school’s lone home meet are on line for 2010.
