In his short time on the New Mexico Highlands University campus, Thomas Manzano has made his presence known.
After the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games of his career Manzano has been named the RMAC-Baden Player of the Week. Manzano earned the honor after his high-scoring play and tenacious defense over the Cowboys’ RMAC-opening weekend in Las Vegas.
Manzano led the Cowboys in scoring each night this past week, also accounting for the game high in points each time. Manzano tallied 27 points against Northern New Mexico to lead the Cowboys to an 86-73 win on Nov. 29 and then led the Cowboys to back-to- back RMAC wins on Friday and Saturday against Metro State College (98-71) and Regis University (70-52).
Manzano scored 34 points against the reigning RMAC champion Metro State and 23 points against Regis. Manzano currently leads the RMAC in scoring with a 25 points per game average.
“We are fortunate to have an athlete of Thomas’ caliber at New Mexico Highlands University,” said NMHU head coach Joe Harge. “He had great games this week for us. We expect great things from him this season as well as great things from our entire team.”
The Cowboys hit the road this weekend, playing at Western State in Gunnison, Colo., on Friday before visiting Mesa State in Grand Junction, Colo., on Saturday.
