The state Judicial Standards Commission has filed a petition with the Supreme Court asking that Mora Magistrate John Sanchez be suspended and face other sanctions after it found that he engaged in ex-parte communications with the family member of a DWI defendant.
The matter stems from the same DWI case that landed Mora Sheriff Thomas Garza in hot water after Garza ordered a deputy to release the DWI suspect, Patrick Trujillo, 39, of Chacon. Garza and then deputy-Lee Allingham got in a heated verbal quarrel over the arrest, and part of that quarrel was recorded by another deputy.
