Don and Cardinal hopes of earning a district baseball championship suffered a setback Monday as both local teams lost doubleheaders to fellow contenders.

Raton swept host West Las Vegas 11-9 and 7-4; Robertson lost two at St. Michael’s 17-2 and 8-7. Both twinbills were makeup games from weather cancellations.

“They were games we should have won,” lamented WLV skipper Dean Gallegos, who said his team gave up 14 unearned runs. “We had errors, walks, also mental errors. In the second game (the Tigers) only got four hits... We gave up four runs on one hit. We couldn’t close out an inning. Our pitching wasn’t that bad; the kids hit their spots. We just didn’t help them. And the walks came back and bit us.
