The Luna Community College softball team travelled north to play Lamar (Colo.)Community College and while there, they traveled north in the standings.
The Lady Rough Riders took three of four, winning 8-3, 7-6 and 5-3. They lost the last game of the series 7-5.
“It was great to see how well this team played together,” said LCC Interim head coach Nathan Trujillo. “It was a great start to the season.”
Kaitlyn Gross had an excellent weekend with eight hits. Alexis Murillo matched Gross with eight hits.
Gabriella Negeiros, Renee Roybal and Veronica Holloman took the wins for the Lady Rough Riders.
The Lady Rough Riders travel to Midland, Texas this weekend and participate in the Midland Classic.

The LCC baseball team continues to compete at a high level.
The Rough Riders won 8-6 and lost 7-0, 3-2 and 5-2.
“We’re a couple of hits away from a couple of victories,” said LCC head coach Antonio Siqueiros. “We’re not capitalizing on opportunities. (But) we’re getting better each day.”
J.D. Heredia continued to pitch well this season taking the win for the Rough Riders.
Ridge Hoopi-Haslam is also having a stellar season. He is hitting at a .440 clip.
Erick Santiago, the starting shortstop, is playing tremendous defense and coming up with solid hits.
The road does not get any easier for the Rough Riders as they take on the nation’s No. 2 team Western Oklahoma this weekend.
The games are scheduled for Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Altus, Okla.
The Rough Riders are no strangers to tough competition. They opened up the season vs. No. 9 Cisco College.
