For a second time this week, Las Vegas-area native Martin Lucero and partner Colby Lovell cracked the top six in the team roping competition of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
Lovell, the header, and Lucero, the heeler, posted the fifth fastest time in Tuesday’s fifth go-round. They clocked in at 5.8 seconds, one second off the quickest pace for that round.
The duo did not have a qualifying time on Wednesday.
As of early Thursday — seven rounds deep into the 10-round competition — Lovell and Lucero ranked 12th in their event.
Luke Brown and Kollin VonAhn, who have placed anywhere from third to sixth in five of the first seven rounds, were atop the leaderboard as of early Thursday.
The WNFR continues through Saturday at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
