Monday, Oct. 8 — A knockout blow was dealt East and West Las Vegas Schools Friday when the New Mexico State Board of Education in an about-face action split off a fourth of San Miguel County and annexed it to Tucumcari and other districts for school purposes. ... The effect of this move is that Tucumcari will now have nearly $7,000 valuation behind each student as compared to $2,524 in West Las Vegas. The loss to San Miguel County is over two million dollars in taxable wealth and bonding capacity.
