-A A +A

In 1964
Monday, June 1 — The 471 residents of Maxwell want their quiet farming town the same as it was four days ago -- before the tornado “which everybody thought would miss us” didn’t. An 85-year-old man died and seven were injured, and estimated damage was more than $300,000. The destruction virtually buried an empty school bus. The body of a man was found under the rubble at his bar in Maxwell, and a Wagon Mound pastor arrived in Maxwell to administer the sacrament of extreme unction to the victim.
