Monday, July 8 — Everyone was having fun at the watermelon race on the Plaza on the 4th of July, with the West Las Vegas Fiesta in full swing. As the starting gun sounded, the kids and adults started to gulp down watermelon at an astounding rate, and recording the whole process on film and sound track was a jovial son of New Mexico, behind a movie camera. E.E. (Ed) Mannes, of Fort Worth, Texas, has been in and out of Las Vegas for the past year, compiling pictures and recording sound for the “Enchanted Trails” series about New Mexico.
