Wednesday, Feb. 27 — Due to extreme fire hazard, a lane of Grand Avenue was blocked off for several blocks early this morning for a little more than two hours while firemen washed 1,000 gallons of gasoline away. Henry Abeyta, of Sapello, reported that he smelled gas in the Grand Ave. Prince St./ intersection vicinity. Gas was found to be running from the storage tanks of the Laubman Oil Company. City Police Chief Ray Stegmaier jumped over the locked fence in the area where the storage tanks are located. “It was literally raining gasoline,” Stegmaier said.
