Las Vegas attorney Jack Kirkpatrick died in a car crash Friday morning on Interstate 25 near Tecolote.
The attorney lost control of his van, went back and forth across the southbound lanes and then wrecked his car, state police Lt. Craig Martin said.
He was killed instantly, while a passenger was flown to an Albuquerque hospital, Martin said. “They told me she (passenger) had severe injuries,” he said.
Martin said a preliminary investigation has revealed that the causes were a combination of speed and possibly a defective tire. Kirkpatrick had bought the used van about a month ago, Martin said.
Kirkpatrick was reportedly going to Santa Fe on business but was planning to return to Las Vegas quickly so that his family could go to Red River for an extended weekend trip.
In Friday’s Optic, Kirkpatrick was listed in an advertisement as one of 13 attorneys who supported District Judge Gerald Baca’s bid against former District Attorney Matt Sandoval for the judgeship position.
The Optic hadn’t received an obituary as of press time for the Las Vegas attorney.
