At last week’s Homecoming parade for West Las Vegas High School I saw a bunch of football players from East School District in their jerseys wait for the end of the parade with large plastic bags in hand and fall in at the end of the parade.
They walked the entire parade route picking up litter to the very end. As the president of “Keep Las Vegas Beautiful” I was very proud of these young people, not to mention our group feeling like change was coming to the parades and the problem with litter being everywhere after a parade and nobody caring about it may be over.
Today I enjoyed another great parade for East Robertson High School Homecoming and I waited until the very end to see (perhaps) if West Las Vegas High School was going to do the same for Robertson High School like was done for their parade. Nope. Not one person was picking up all the litter that had been thrown off floats or just left behind from the community.
I will say that I myself am sick of candy being thrown off of floats when it is against the city ordinance and is clearly explained when an organization applies for the parade permit.
When will all the adults who participate in these parades start following the rules and make our young people adhere to those very same rules? The people and organizations that are a part of our committee work very hard to try and keep our community looking nice! When will the schools in our community start doing the same during these parades? When will the adults start making their young people care about a clean and litter-free community?
