Letter: 'Hypocrisy' right characterization

In response to Annette Franklin’s letter to the Optic which ran May 19, I’d have to say “Tea Party hypocrisy” is precisely the right characterization of the Tea Party complaints.

Much of the economic crisis is attributable to failed conservative economic philosophy and policies, yet Franklin seems to be under the misguided impression that more of the fatal disease will cure the disease. Where were these frustrated Tea Partiers for at least the past decade when the conditions leading to the crisis were wholeheartedly promoted by conservatives now obstructing measures needed to clean up the mess?

Why was the future of the children not in jeopardy when the Bush administration engaged in chronic fiscal irresponsibility and claimed it really didn’t matter? This is why the Tea Party movement is so laughable; these questionably informed people are really peevish because they can’t dominate American politics into perpetuity — that’s what the Tea Party grousing is really about!

If Ms. Franklin and other Tea Partiers don’t like the measures that have been taken to address conditions that were set well before Jan. 20, 2009, then all she has to do is look in the mirror for some of the blame.
