By this time next week, another summer of city league softball will be in the books.

The City of Las Vegas Recreation Department’s women’s division tournament begins Wednesday evening at Rodriguez Park’s softball complex.

(The schedule has been tweaked from the one originally posted. More on that in a moment.)

As of press time, the mighty Hackers had punched their ticket to a men’s division final. That game was set as Tuesday night’s main event, with DB’s Milkmen and the Dream Team meeting for the right to join the Hackers in the championship.

Notably, the Dream Team had pulled off three clutch victories in a row to get through the losers’ bracket, edging The Best 14-13, the Blaze 22-20 and then upsetting third-seeded Tecolote on Monday night.

Named in honor of their late friend, the Milkmen played an inspired season and tournament. they dispatched the Dream Team and Tecolote by double digits in the first two rounds. And they got off to a strong start against the top-seeded Hackers on Monday night.

But the Hackers’ prolific, hard-hitting offense struck for four first-inning home runs and a 23-5 lead en route to a key semifinal victory. The Milkmen then found themselves having to deal with a streaking Dream Team the following evening, with a potential rematch with the Hackers as the prize.

Back to the women: The originally scheduled 8:45 games have been nixed, leaving Wednesday’s lineup as Victory Home Health vs. Rowdy Rascals at 6:15 p.m., followed by Night Owl-Bud Light vs. Bases Loaded.

The top-seeded AVRH Scrubs will wait until 7:30 p.m. Thursday to play the Victory-Rascals winner. The first losers’ bracket game (between the Victory-Rascals loser and the Night Owl-Bases Loaded loser) will be 6:15 Thursday.
